Recent Projects

2011

  • Public performances of  Heart of the Matter  (9th and 10th April), and publication of full scores and parts as well as recording of a double CD album; scored for narrator/voice, saxophone, clarinet, didjeridu, strings, piano, bass and percussion x 4.  (This project was made possible by the generous support of the Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts.)
  • Fund-raising concert (17th November) with the New Gen Philharmonic (kids orchestra) for Medecin sans Frontiere (Doctors without Borders) -raised over $700.  Premiered Still Point (always ever this) composed for solo sax (Craig Walters) strings, piano, bass and percussion.
  • Publication of A Playground Groove (orchestral with percussion x 7) and On the Edge (strings, keyboard, and percussion (incl. vibes and marimba)
  • Publication of compositions for student groups; Pastoral in D and Journey to the Mythical Place.

2010

  • Currently involved in the editing of scores, for publication and in preparation for next year’s performances, as well as the recording of a double CD album of Heart of the Matter , for narrator/voice, saxophone, clarinet, didjeridu, strings, piano, bass and percussion x 4.
  • Publication of compositions for student groups; In Times of Change and Journey to the Mythical Place
  • Composition of A Step at a Time (commissioned by the Presbyterian Ladies College, Sydney)
  • Guest lecturer: Australian National University, School of Music (September)
  • Guest lecturer: Australian Film, Television and Radio School -string writing and technique for film composition students, as well as Concertmaster and organizer of chamber orchestra involved in the recording of student compositions. (October)

2009

  • Revision and completion of Songs of Psyche for soprano, chorus (Alto I + II and baritone) saxophone, strings, bass and percussion x 2, (53:00)
  • Completion of works for solo piano (If Trees could Sing…. in Bb (15:45) and publication of Adagio and Allegro in C# (23:00))
  • Completion of liner notes and biographies, and mastering of Elektra String Quartet album, Stringlines, (featuring commissioned works by Westlake, Edwards, Hindson, Stanhope and Crivici) to be released on ABC Classics late-2011.
  • Publication of compositions for student groups; -A Question of Taste…hmm?, A Simple Groove, And then It Shone (It always does!)

2008

  • Completion and performance of Haze, at 20th Anniversary event at Australian Parliament House, performed by Inner Voices (string quartet, didjeridu, piano and percussion x2).
  • Editing, revision, and new compositions towards the completion of a body of music for children and younger people.
  • Further development of Symphony No 2, (Icon) for solo sax, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion

2007

  • Composer-in-residence, Sydney Youth Orchestra – works for three string orchestras.
  • Recital of compositions and improvisations at the Art Gallery of NSW on piano, with Mark Atkins (didjeridu)  (October)

 

2005

  • Revision and publication of String Quartets No 2 (Hardware), No. 3 and No 4 (Gregorian Funk).
  • Revision and publication of Symphony No 1- ‘As Night follows Day…(performed – ABC Sydney Sinfonia, Education program, 2005).

2004

  • Songs of Psyche – Composition of Music Theatre work for voice/sampler, electric viola, keyboards, percussion and bass. Directing performance from keyboards.

2003

  • Mantra - Revision and recording of Quintet for bass clarinet and strings, based on a traditional Tibetan chant. Originally composed for and performed by Nigel Westlake and Elektra String Quartet.
  • Working in the role of producer (as well as artistic director and performer) on the recording of “String Lines”,featuring compositions by prominent Australian composers Westlake, Edwards, Stanhope, Hindson and Crivici, specifically commissioned, and performed, by the Elektra String Quartet. (To be released on ABC Classics mid-2009)
  • Quinkan, (45 minute Ballet, scored for didjeridu, orchestra and percussion) Choreographer- Marilyn Miller

2002

  • The Nameless One, (string quartet, looping device and Didjeridu)
  • Interplanetary Dreaming, (for voice, string quartet, didjeridu and percussion),

2001

  • Heart Of The Matter -Cycle of nine movements, for alto voice/narrator, sax, string quartet, bass, and percussion). (Powerhouse Museum, Sydney)
  • Conduct and record Symphony No 1 for ABC Radio National broadcast. (Sounding The Museum)

2000

  • In Times of Change and One in the Rhythm – ballet scores for wind instruments, marimba, piano and percussion-Festival of Pacific Arts, Noumea, New Caledonia 2000.
  • Initiated and devised the “Powerhouse Twin Violin Project” in collaboration with leading Australian violin maker Harry Vatiliotis, the Powerhouse Museum and the Music Acoustics Laboratory, University of New South Wales.
